How to survive rainy weather?

A week or two of constant rain can be inconvenient. You have to postpone your outdoor activities or stay at home if it’s possible. There are also other side effects of cloudy weather, such as unstable mood, sadness or melancholy. But what can we do about it? Keep complaining about the rain, or start taking action? If you chose option two, here are some useful tips on how to make your life brighter even if it’s grey outside:

  1. Try light and colour therapy

If lack of sun makes you depressed, using light therapy can boost your mood. It has impact on our body’s production of melatonin and serotonin. Your mood, energy levels, creativity can increase when you are surrounded by bright colours. Red, yellow and orange are associated with warmth and energy. We can incorporate bright colours in our wardrobe, home or personal expression (makeup or props).

  1. Enter a flow state

‘A flow state’ means you are focused intently and fully engaged in your actions. It can help you feel happier instantly, no matter how bad the weather is. Cleaning, writing, drawing or crafting can be helpful. Creativity activities can also provide a sense of accomplishment.

  1. Indulge in self-care

Use the rainy day as an opportunity to pamper yourself. Take a long, relaxing bath, do a face mask or massage your neck and shoulders. Concentrate on nourishing yourself.

  1. Catch up with friends and loved ones

It can be healing to reach out to friends or family members and host a cozy indoor hangout. Even a phone call or video call can have a positive impact on our mood.

  1. Move your body

Exercise is a natural antidepressant. Any physical activity will be beneficial. You can try doing a workout video, yoga, jumping rope, dancing or lifting weights.

  1. Practice mindfulness and meditation

Meditation offers numerous benefits, including stress reduction, improved mental clarity, enhanced emotional well-being, and better physical health. Rainy days can encourage you to slow down and be present in the moment. Try mindfulness exercises or meditation to connect with your thoughts and feelings, reducing stress and anxiety.

  1. Cook something new

Any activity that’s new, challenging, and creative is perfectly poised to make you happier on a rainy day. The aroma of freshly baked goods or a delicious meal can add to the cozy atmosphere, and it helps to engage our senses.
