The Norwegian Centre for Mathematics Education was established August 1, 2002 and its primary task is to lead and coordinate the development of new and improved working methods and learning strategies in the mathematics education, from kindergardens through teacher education in Norway. The Centre shall also contribute to a close and good Nordic cooperation.

NCM:s uppgift är att stödja utvecklingen av matematikutbildning i förskolan, i det obligatoriska och frivilliga skolväsendet och inrättades genom regeringsbeslut i januari 1999.
